Spector Euro 5 CST LTD — Haunted Moss Gloss
Few basses are as easy to recognise as a Spector. The curved, carved NS body sits against you in a way a flat slab never does, and the sound that comes with it, a tight low end with a hard, growling midrange, has been a fixture in rock and metal for decades. The Euro series is built in the Czech Republic, and the CST is the dressed-up version of it: a burl top, a neck-through build and abalone crown inlays all the way up the ebony board.
This one is a limited-run finish. Haunted Moss is normally a matte stain on other Euro models, but here it’s done in high gloss over European poplar burl, and the result is a deep green that shifts into amber and brown wherever the burl figure turns. It’s from 2025, it’s a five-string with a 35″ scale, and it has been so little played that we’d call it as new.
A neck-through Spector with a 35 inch scale does one thing better than almost anything else: a low B that hits hard and stays in focus.
Body, Neck & Woods
The body wings are European ash with a walnut stripe, capped with a European poplar burl top. Ash gives you a firm, punchy low end and a clear, open top, which is a big part of why Spectors cut through a loud band the way they do. On the back, the Haunted Moss stain is dark enough to look almost black from a distance, but up close you can see the ash grain running through it. The whole body is carved, front and back, so it wraps around you and feels smaller than it is.
The neck is three pieces of maple running the full length of the bass, with graphite rods inside for stiffness. A neck-through build means the strings, pickups and bridge all sit on the same piece of wood, and you hear that as long, even sustain and notes that feel connected from the first fret to the last. There’s no heel block in the way either, so the upper frets are easy to reach.
The fingerboard is ebony with 24 frets and laminated abalone crown inlays, and the nut is brass, 46 mm wide. Ebony is hard and dense, so the attack is quick and precise, and the brass nut keeps open strings sounding as lively as fretted ones. The scale is 35″, an inch longer than standard. That extra inch puts more tension on the low B, so it feels firmer under the fingers and speaks with a clearer pitch, without making the rest of the neck feel like a stretch.
Condition
This bass is in as-new condition. The gloss finish is clean front and back, the frets show no wear and the black hardware looks fresh. Everything works as it should.
It weighs 3.9 kg and comes with a gig bag.
Electronics, Sound & Feel
The pickups are an active EMG X set: a split P at the neck and a J at the bridge. This is the pairing most people have in their ears when they think of a Spector. The P gives you the big, solid punch, the J adds bite and definition, and the X series has a little more headroom and a more open, less compressed feel than the older EMG designs. They’re also very quiet, which matters when you start adding gain.
The preamp is the Spector Legacy, designed together with Darkglass to bring back the voice of the classic Spector circuit. It’s a simple layout with four knobs: volume, pickup blend, treble and bass, both cut and boost. You don’t need more than that. Turn up the bass and treble a little and the famous Spector growl is right there, and with the EQ flat the bass is still clear and punchy enough to carry a mix on its own. The battery sits in its own quick-change compartment on the back.
This is a bass for the player who wants a modern five-string with real authority in the low end and a midrange that doesn’t get lost behind loud guitars. It’s at home in rock, metal and fusion, but it’s more versatile than its reputation suggests, and the P pickup alone will do a convincing old-school job. We think a neck-through Euro in a limited finish, in this condition, is a lot of Spector for the money.
