Mayones
Basses
Mayones (pronounced My-yo-ness) is one of those brands that quietly shows up, knocks the room flat with its sound, and then vanishes back into the workshop like a tone ninja.
Born in Gdańsk, Poland in 1982, Mayones started out as a small operation behind the Iron Curtain – back when finding good gear in Eastern Europe meant building it yourself. Fast forward a few decades, and what began as a DIY dream is now one of the most respected boutique bass and guitar builders on the planet.
Still family-run, still built by hand, and still proudly Polish.
Mayones basses feel like they’ve been carved from a single piece of tone philosophy. They’ve got that custom shop quality without the fluff – clean lines, killer fretwork, and tones that go from articulate jazz to wall-shaking doom with a flick of the wrist.
They’re obsessed with:
-
Tonewoods that ring – swamp ash, eye poplar, exotic tops… the works.
-
Perfect necks – many feature their “TEW” treatment (Tonally Enhanced Wood), which is a fancy way of saying they roast the wood to make it more stable, more resonant, and straight-up better for tone.
-
Zero-compromise build quality – every Mayones feels like someone put in the hours. Because they did.
Even the preamps and hardware are next level. Custom-designed bridges, ultra-precise frets (often PLEK’d), and premium electronics from brands like Aguilar, Delano, and Velvetrone. Some even have onboard headphone amps for silent shredding.
Everything’s still built in Poland by a small, dedicated team. No mass production. No cutting corners. Every bass that leaves their hands has been played, tested, set up and loved before it gets to you.
This is not some giant machine pumping out clones. Each Mayones is a real-deal luthier-built instrument, ready to perform right out of the case.
Whether you’re a modern fusion beast, a groove machine, or someone chasing that elusive “feel” that inspires you to play more – Mayones delivers.
Artists like Hadrien Feraud, Federico Malaman, Wojtek Pilichowski and many others have worked closely with Mayones to build signature models that are as musical as they are technical.
