Dragon Skin+ DBQ5-45 — Quantum Nickel, Coated, 5-String
DR built Dragon Skin+ around two ideas: make a coated string that doesn’t feel or sound coated, and squeeze more output out of the wire itself. The coating is micro-thin, so you get the long life and grime resistance of a coated set without the dull, plasticky top end coatings are usually blamed for — DR reckons the chime actually outlasts an uncoated string. Under that coating sits Quantum Nickel, DR’s own nickel-steel alloy with extra magnetism that sends a stronger signal to your pickups for a bigger, fuller voice.
The other half of the trick is Accurate Core Technology: DR cuts locking grooves into the round core so the wrap wire cradles into place instead of floating. Tighter contact means more sustain, better tuning stability, and the springy, flexible feel DR’s round-core sets are loved for. This is the medium 45-125 five-string set on a long scale, with a tapered low B that sits tight and defined rather than floppy.
