G&L Build To Order USA L-2500 3-Tone Sunburst
Born from Clarence Leo Fender’s CLF Research company, founded in 1966, the G&L brand and instruments marked the final chapter of his legendary career when they were launched in 1980. G&L instruments benefited from his lifetime of creativity and innovation, and throughout the 1980s, his groundbreaking new instruments became icons loved by musicians around the world.
Today, G&L instruments continue to be crafted in his historic factory on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California – The Birthplace of Bolt-on™. Discover why Leo famously declared, “G&L guitars and basses are the best instruments I have ever made.”
A Legendary Heritage By the late 1970s, Clarence Leo Fender and his CLF Research company had completed his consultancy for CBS/Fender, designed and manufactured the original Music Man instruments, and were looking forward to launching a new brand.
Together with former Fender employees George Fullerton and Dale Hyatt, Leo launched G&L Instruments, incorporating advanced features derived from his decades of experience in redefining what was possible in an electric guitar and bass.
The G&L L-2500: Leo Fender’s Masterpiece Evolved
When Leo Fender introduced the G&L L-2000 bass in 1980, he set a new standard in bass guitar design. With its unprecedented range of tones, the L-2000 quickly became a favorite among bassists of all styles. Building on this legacy, the L-2500 five-string version emerged a decade and a half later, pushing the boundaries even further.
At the heart of the L-2500 are two G&L Magnetic Field Design humbuckers, coupled with the Tri-Tone control system. This system offers incredible tonal flexibility with three mini toggles for pickup selection, series/parallel signal routing, and active/passive operation. Additionally, three knobs control volume, treble, and bass, allowing you to dial in your perfect sound for any genre, from classic R&B to hard-hitting rock and funky grooves.
The addition of a robust low ‘B’ string on the L-2500 provides a powerful and well-defined bottom end, enhancing the depth and richness of your playing.
One of the standout features of the L-2500 is the Empress wood, its exceptionally light weight. This makes the G&L L2500 incredibly comfortable to play, especially during long sessions. Whether you’re performing on stage or practicing in the studio, the reduced weight minimizes fatigue, allowing you to focus entirely on your playing.
Enhanced Ergonomics: The lightness of the Empress wood body contributes to better ergonomics. The bass feels more balanced and easier to handle, making it suitable for players of all sizes and skill levels. The reduced strain on your shoulders and back enhances your overall playing experience, making extended performances more enjoyable and less taxing on your body.
The Saddle-Lock™ bridge, designed by Leo Fender, ensures optimal string energy transfer into the body, creating an incredibly resonant instrument.
The L-2500 features a comfortable C-shaped neck with a 12″ radius, fitted with 21 Jescar 57110 medium-jumbo nickel-silver frets, delivering smooth and effortless playability.
Following in the footsteps of the iconic L-2000, the L-2500 continues Leo Fender’s tradition of pioneering design and unmatched quality.
The Tri-Tone control system and MFD humbuckers offer a wide array of tonal possibilities, making the L-2500 suitable for any musical style.
With its extended low range and innovative bridge design, the L-2500 provides a resonant, powerful sound that stands out in any mix.
Designed for ease of play, the L-2500’s neck and fretboard offer a smooth and enjoyable playing experience.
This L-2500 is a super lightweight and weighs only 3.67Kg
