Marleaux has been building basses since 1990, and his unparalleled passion for quality and attention to detail has led to him being acknowledged as one of the greatest builders currently around.

Gerald hand-picks the wood in the local area around his workshop and treats the woods like a true artisan. Time and attention is put into proper storage, treatment and drying of the woods so their inherent sonic characteristics and qualities shine through uncompromised.

The old violin colored Contra 5 is a semi-hollow body bass made from the same materials as fine violins and bass viols, and what a masterpiece it is! A true work of art, but without being a furniture bass.

The bass features a maple body with a spruce top, ebony fingerboard and 3-piece maple neck.

It comes with 2 Delano dual humbucker pickups that capture the richness of this highly unique bass beautifully.

The preamp is the Heiko Jung preamp with a microphone that gives a fantastic rich powerful and yet an organic sound to the bass.

The tone of this bass is otherworldly rich. The low end is full and smooth and at the same time the harmonics just pop out in a very organic way.
