Marleaux MBass Custom 5 Hollow
Marleaux is a bass company located in Germany and founded by Gerald Marleaux.
Marleaux has been building basses since 1990, and his unparalleled passion for quality and attention to detail has led to him being acknowledged as one of the greatest builders currently around.
Gerald hand-picks the wood in the local area around his workshop and treats the woods like a true artisan. Time and attention is put into proper storage, treatment and drying of the woods so their inherent sonic characteristics and qualities shine through uncompromised.
This Mbass feels like a combination of Marleaux own Contra and the Votan/Consat series. The semi-hollow body makes the core of the tone more organic and alive with full of warmth as the Contra. The body core of alder and walnut top and combined with the ebony fingerboard makes the sound organic but yet very fast responsive and articulated.
This Mbass is a multiscaled bass, and therefore the fanned frets. The reason for having different scale length is to ensure the same characteristic on each string. On a normal bass, it sounds different on each string the low B tends to be a little more muddy and sloppy than the E string, and the high string G or C is harder and thinner sounding. This is even out by the multiscale. On this Mbass it goes from G 33,5” to B 34,5” which is a bit conservative than other companies that do the same but never the less it works beautifully
It comes with Delano’s quad coil hum-cancelling humbucker pickups, which are the perfect match for this bass. You have one switch for each pickup where you can separately choose between Humbuckers in parallel, Humbuckers in series as well as Single Coils, and with the pickup blend control, you have endless possibilities to sculpt your sound.
The Preamp is a Marleaux EQ BC3, with a 3-band active EQ sporting Bass, Mid and Treble controls.
