Bass Synth
Turn your bass into a deep-space funk engine with the MXR Bass Synth. Created in collaboration with groove maestro Ian Martin Allison, this pedal delivers a galaxy of thick, juicy monophonic synth tones—echoing the iconic sounds of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Parliament Funkadelic, and more. With bone-rattling sub-octaves, dynamic envelope filtering, and lush, expressive modulation, the MXR Bass Synth is your passport to vintage analog-style vibes with modern control and flexibility.
The MXR Bass Synth gives you a comprehensive set of controls to sculpt your tone with precision and playability.
-
Sub Mix lets you blend in as much low-end sub-octave as you want—go from tight punch to full-on floor-rumbling thunder.
-
Mod introduces shimmering motion—from subtle wave-like shimmer to strobe-light synth pulses.
-
Envelope shapes your filter response with everything from sharp, snappy funk pops to slow, sweeping syrupy textures.
And it doesn’t stop there. The Mix, Cutoff, and Resonance knobs fine-tune your signal with surgical control: blend dry and wet tones, set your filter’s frequency, and boost it for extra edge and presence.
The Voice button introduces additional harmonically tuned oscillators for layered, harmonically rich tones, while the Shape button lets you flip between three classic waveforms:
-
Triangle for smooth and glassy
-
Sawtooth for gritty and aggressive
-
Square for bold and punchy synth lines.
Ready to Funk – No Tweaking Required
Don’t want to dial it all in from scratch? No problem. The MXR Bass Synth comes loaded with eight hand-crafted presets by Ian Martin Allison, each one channeling a legendary synth vibe—from the pulsing lines of Herbie Hancock’s Chameleon to the growling textures of Nine Inch Nails’ Head Like a Hole. Just hit the Preset button to cycle through and drop straight into the groove.
Deep Tweaks for Tone Nerds
For the sonic explorers and tone sculptors, the MXR Bass Synth has plenty more under the hood:
-
Adjust oscillator and modulation blends
-
Tweak compression and tracking styles
-
Switch to stereo output for expansive soundscapes
-
Integrate external control with pedals like the MXR Split + Tap or Tap Tempo Switch
-
Use an expression pedal (Volume (X)™ Series) to sweep between settings live
From Church to Clubs to the Cosmos
Whether you’re laying down synth lines at church, dropping bass bombs in a cover band, or building layers in the studio, the MXR Bass Synth adapts effortlessly. With killer tracking, robust sustain, and instant access to rich, analog-style synth tones, this pedal isn’t just an effect—it’s a whole new instrument for your board.
