Peterson StroboStomp HD
Peterson built their reputation on accuracy. Their strobe tuners have been the studio standard for over 75 years — the kind of tool you reach for when “close enough” isn’t good enough. The StroboStomp HD is their full-size statement piece: the largest tuning display Peterson has ever built into a pedal, with the same 0.1-cent strobe accuracy that earned them the trust of techs, luthiers, and stage rigs around the world.
A high-definition LCD with user-selectable backlight colour. True bypass, pure buffer, or always-on monitor mode. Over 100 Sweetened Tunings covering everything from standard 4-string and 5-string bass to multi-scale, pedal steel, and orchestral instruments. The HD does the job of a workshop strobe tuner from a pedalboard footprint.
If you've ever tried to set intonation on a multi-scale or extended-range bass with anything less, this is where the second-guessing stops.
Tuning, Bypass & The Bass Player Verdict
The difference between a strobe tuner and a needle tuner is the difference between asking “is it close?” and seeing pitch directly. Peterson’s HD display shows tuning as motion — when the bars stop moving, you’re in tune. There’s no green-zone fudge factor and no waiting for the indicator to settle. For setting intonation, comparing the response of a fretted note against the open string, or just getting an extended-range bass to actually sound right across the neck, that motion-based feedback is what separates a strobe from everything else.
The HD ships with over 100 exclusive Sweetened Tunings — instrument-specific offsets that compensate for how a particular instrument actually intonates, including dedicated presets for 4-string and 5-string bass (EADG and BEADG), Buzz Feiten systems, pedal steel, and a long list of guitars and orchestral instruments. The Guided Tuning mode displays numeric string values instead of note names, which makes rapid retuning to open or alternate tunings genuinely fast on stage.
The chassis runs three bypass modes (pop-less true bypass, pure buffer, always-on monitor), a dedicated 9V power-doubler output for chaining a ninth pedal off a saturated power supply, and USB Micro-B for firmware updates and custom tuning via Peterson Connect. If you’re a player who cares about intonation on extended-range or multi-scale builds — or you’re a tech who sets up other people’s instruments — this is the strobe tuner that lives on the board permanently.
