Peterson StroboVUE — the always-on strobe tuner
Peterson have been building the most accurate tuners on the planet since 1948, and the StroboVUE is the cleanest expression yet of what a pedalboard strobe tuner can be. They’ve thrown out the footswitch entirely — no mute, no true bypass, no display-off. What you get instead is a permanent tuning monitor with the same high-definition LCD that made the StroboStomp HD famous, sitting on your board and showing you exactly where every string is, every second.
That’s a deliberate move. Most pedal tuners are stompboxes that interrupt your signal. The StroboVUE is a buffered tuning monitor that lives in your chain full-time, watching the pitch and keeping your tone clean across long cable runs and pedal-heavy boards. If you’ve ever stomped on the wrong pedal at the worst moment, or just wanted one less thing to think about between songs, this is what that looks like.
It's the tuner you never have to think about — which, on stage, is exactly the right number of things to think about.
Display, Tuning & Build
The HD colour LCD is the heart of the StroboVUE. It’s bright enough to read in direct sunlight, big enough to see from standing height, and you can dial the backlight to any of 10 preset colours — or build your own via Peterson Connect over USB-C. Better still, you can assign a different colour to each preset, so ‘drop D’ is orange and ‘standard guitar’ is teal, with the colour itself doing the work of telling you which preset you’re in. Less menu-diving, more playing.
Under the hood, it’s a true virtual strobe — ±0.1 cent accuracy, the same engine that’s been the studio and tech-room standard for decades. Over 130 Sweetened Tunings (Peterson’s exclusive offsets that correct the inherent compromises of fretted instruments) plus numbered Guided Tunings make fast work of open and alternate tunings. Concert A is adjustable from 390 to 490 Hz, transposition runs -6 to +5 semitones, and the tuning range covers C0 to A#8 — everything from a low B on an extended-range bass to the top of the harmonic range.
The angled stainless enclosure is built for stage use. Top-mounted INPUT, OUTPUT, USB-C and 9V DC keep cables off the floor and save pedalboard real estate, and the Pure Buffer is always engaged, protecting high-end detail through long cable runs and pedal-heavy chains. One thing worth knowing up front: there’s no battery option, only 9V DC, so a power supply is required. It’s a tuning monitor built to live on a board, not a battery-powered grab-and-go.
For pedalboard players who want Peterson accuracy without ever stomping on a tuner again, this is the cleanest way to get it. Match the colour to your tuning, plug it in, and forget about it.
