Aguilar TLC Compressor EQ DLX
Compression is the effect most bassists end up needing and the hardest one to get right. The original TLC earned its place on pro pedalboards by doing the job without ever drawing attention to itself — even, musical, transparent. The DLX is the version that finally puts everything on the front panel.
Built on Aguilar’s in-house DSP engine, it follows a proper studio workflow: control the dynamics first, then shape the tone. You get the full set of compressor controls plus a musical EQ, so instead of fighting your loud and quiet notes you’re shaping how the whole instrument sits in a mix.
Set it once and forget it's there — your loud notes stop jumping out, your quiet notes stop disappearing, and the bass just locks into the track.
Controls, Sound & Feel
The compressor side gives you independent Threshold, Attack, Ratio and Release, so you can dial in anything from invisible level-smoothing to firm peak control — and how it feels under the fingers, not just how much it clamps. The Blend control is the one most players reach for: it mixes your dry signal back in for parallel compression, keeping the punch and attack of your touch while the compressed signal adds consistency and sustain underneath. The LED gain-reduction meter shows you exactly how hard it’s working, which makes it easy to repeat a setting across different basses and rooms.
Once the dynamics are under control, the boost-only Bass and Treble EQ — voiced after Aguilar’s classic DB 925 — lets you add weight and presence without getting muddy or harsh. Bass brings low-end fullness, Treble opens up clarity and articulation, and because it’s broadband and musical it works like the EQ section of a channel strip rather than a surgical tone control. It’s especially useful in front of a passive bass that needs a little lift before it hits the amp.
This is the one to grab if you want a single box that levels, punches and shapes — an always-on tone foundation for stage and studio alike. Low noise floor, standard 9V power, pedalboard-friendly footprint, and made in the USA. If you’ve been after a compressor that does the work without ever sounding like a compressor, the TLC DLX is exactly that.
