Dingwall D-Roc 4 Celestial blue
This isn’t your average D-Roc. This is the Custom Shop version — built in Canada by the same hands behind Dingwall’s legendary Z and Super series — and every detail reflects that extra level of craft. From the tonewood choices to the stunning finish and precise build quality, this D-Roc 4 doesn’t just look the part. It plays and sounds like something from a different league.
The multi-scale isn’t a gimmick — it’s a functional design choice that suits this bass perfectly.
The longer scale on the low strings keeps your bottom end tight and defined, even when tuned down. Meanwhile, the shorter scale up top makes the higher strings easier to play, more bendable, and slightly sweeter in tone.
You don’t have to “adjust” to it — it just feels balanced. And on a bass like this, where you’ve got a vintage-inspired tone living in a modern body, the multi-scale layout gives everything more clarity and consistency without losing any of the vibe.

The body is made from Khaya mahogany, gives the tone a nice low-mid warmth, more depth in the centre of the note. It’s not muddy — just fuller, with a bit more of that slow-burning, woody character.
The wenge fingerboard is a dense, open-pored hardwood, often chosen not just for its striking grain, but for how it subtly shapes the bass tone.
Wenge doesn’t exaggerate the lows — instead, it keeps them focused and clean. You won’t get the deep bloom of rosewood, but you will get defined low notes with a fast, articulate response. Perfect if you want your low end to stay punchy in a dense mix.
Wenge emphasizes the midrange in a very even, natural way. It doesn’t scoop or honk. You’ll get a slightly dry, woody midrange, which helps give notes a bit of edge without any nasal overtones. Great for players who want clarity without hyping the mids artificially.
The neck is a 5 pc maple neck. Maple is a bright, dense tonewood, known for its tight lows and crisp attack. It keeps the tone clear and direct, especially when paired with deep-sounding body woods like mahogany.
The stiffness of a laminated neck can slightly enhance note sustain and upper-mid projection. It doesn’t add more volume, but it does help the tone feel more solid and stable, especially when you dig in.
Where softer woods (like mahogany) may introduce some warmth or “air,” a multi-laminate maple neck tends to keep things clean and controlled. Great for players who want clarity and consistency across the fretboard.
When you add all this together you get a very powerful, potent, warm, slightly compressed tone that needs a little more release and that’s why Dingwall’s own FDV alnico pickups are the perfect match adding wide range of dynamics and a tone that breaths.
