The Octamizer, Reimagined for Modern Bass

Octave pedals have always asked bass players to compromise — great tracking but a thin sub, a fat sub but no clean control, or an octave-up that sounds like it wandered over from a guitar rig. Aguilar built the original Octamizer to fix the first half of that problem, and it earned its spot on pro pedalboards because it simply sounded like bass. The Octamizer DLX is the rest of the answer.

Rebuilt on Aguilar’s own in-house DSP platform, the DLX keeps the musical, organic character of the original and adds everything players kept wishing it had: a second octave-down voice, a dedicated octave-up engine, a clean signal you can mute entirely, and three independent footswitches so you build the sound with your feet instead of diving for knobs.

Electronics, Sound & Feel

The heart of the DLX is still the octave-down section, and it keeps the familiar Octamizer control set — independent Filter and Level for both the octave-down voice and your clean signal — so you can sit a defined dry tone under a weighty sub or mute the clean entirely for pure synth-bass. What’s new is choice: A Mode delivers the classic Octamizer sweep, from smooth and round to sharper, synth-forward textures, while B Mode leans on vintage octave-divider circuits for grittier, OC-2-flavoured character. Two distinct lows from one pedal, switched right from the Oct Down footswitch.

For the first time in the Octamizer line there’s a dedicated octave-up engine, and it’s voiced specifically for bass. That matters — most octave-up effects turn harsh and latent the moment you push them, but the DLX keeps the upper harmonics smooth and immediate, with simple Up Filter and Up Level controls to dial anything from a subtle shimmer doubling your line to a present, almost organ-like lead voice.

Three independent footswitches handle the clean signal, octave down and octave up, so you engage each voice on its own or stack all three on the fly — subtle reinforcement one bar, a wall of layered synth-bass the next. Underneath it all, Aguilar’s new DSP tracks fast and stays locked even on extended-range basses, holding pitch and clarity when you pile the voices on.
