Darkglass Microtubes 900 v2 bass amp: two drive engines in one head
This is the Microtubes 900 v2 from Darkglass. Because back in 2016, the original Microtubes 900 was the first bass amp Darkglass ever made. So the v2 is the next step, with 900 watts at 4 ohm and 450 watts at 8 ohm, in a head that weighs 2.9 kilos.
B3K and Vintage Microtubes
Still, the big thing about the Darkglass Microtubes 900 v2 is that you get both Microtubes engines. First, there’s the B3K mode, which is aggressive and percussive. Then there’s the VMT mode from the Vintage Microtubes, which brings up the mids for a warmer, more neutral sound.
In other words, clean, classic and metal tones are only one button away.
Furthermore, Drive goes from a soft, warm overdrive to a massive modern distortion. Likewise, Tone shapes the top of the distortion, Level sets its volume, and Blend mixes the clean and the distorted signal.
Compressor and six-band EQ
In addition, there’s a studio-grade VCA compressor, so you get an extra layer of control over the drive. Then, after that, comes an ultra-quiet six-band graphic EQ, with bass at 80 Hz, four mids and treble at 5 kHz.
As a result, the Microtubes 900 v2 goes from aggressive and overdriven to warm and punchy, and all the way to crystal clear clean.
MIDI, cabinet IRs and silent practice
Moreover, the Darkglass Microtubes 900 v2 bass amp has MIDI, so you can switch channels with a MIDI controller. Also, there are three cabinet impulse responses you can store and switch between. With the aux in and the headphone out, it’s a great tool for silent practice at home too.
Why we dig the Darkglass Microtubes 900 v2
In short, it’s two of the most loved Darkglass drives, a really flexible EQ and power for days, in a compact head. So, what’s not to like?
