ULV stands for Ultra-Light Vertical, and Genzler delivers on both counts. This single-12 weighs 8.85 kg — about the same as a loaded gig bag — yet it moves air like a far bigger box. The trick is the vertical layout: stacking the 12″ driver and the tweeter in a tall, narrow column keeps the low end tight and throws your midrange straight up toward your ears, so you hear yourself clearly on a crowded stage instead of losing your sound across the floor.
The weight comes off without losing rigidity, thanks to a new 12 mm ultra-light poplar plywood shell with internal acoustic damping. Inside sits a premium neodymium 12″ driver built around a dual-wound voice coil — a design that raises power handling and efficiency at the same time — crossed over at 5.6 kHz to a compact 1″ neodymium bullet tweeter through a 12 dB/octave network. A 100W L-Pad on the back lets you dial the highs from sparkling to rolled-off to suit your bass and the room.
Sound & Fit
On paper it’s 350 watts at 8 ohm with 98 dB sensitivity and clean response down to 40 Hz; in the room that means a fast, punchy voice with enough bottom to carry a low B without ever farting out. The single 12 gives you the focused midrange and quick transient response players love for both fingerstyle and pick, while the bullet tweeter keeps slap and harmonics crisp on the nights you want them — and it’s easy to tuck away with the L-Pad when you don’t.
It’s a complete rig on its own for clubs, rehearsals and studio work, and because it’s so light you’ll actually bring it. When you need more air for a bigger stage, add a second ULV cabinet and the vertical format keeps the two coherent instead of smearing the sound. Run it with the Magellan 800+ head and you have a full-power rig you can carry in one hand, the cabinet in the other. For any bassist tired of choosing between a serious 1×12 and their back, this is the answer.
